Ground lease
A ground lease lets a billboard company keep its structure on someone else’s land in return for rent.
Most billboards stand on land the operator does not own. The ground lease sets the rent, the term and the rules for getting to the site.
Leases are a big cost. At the end of 2025, Lamar leased about 71,500 sites, at about $348.1 million a year. That was about 17% of its billboard net revenue.
Lamar’s lease terms run from month to month to over ten years. If a lease ends, the board may have to come down, so track every end date.
In Gabie
Gabie won’t let a hold, booking, CSV import or contract run past a ground lease. It tells you to shorten the booking or renew the lease first.
