Landowner

The landowner owns the land under a billboard and leases it to the billboard company for rent.

The landowner signs the ground lease and gets the rent. It may be a farmer, a business or a family trust.

Big operators deal with thousands of landowners. OUTFRONT reported about 19,100 lease agreements with about 17,500 landlords at the end of 2025.

Good landowner ties matter. An unhappy landowner may ask for more rent at renewal, or lease the site to a rival.
