Billboard

A billboard is a large outdoor ad display beside a road, made to be read from far away.

OAAA defines billboards as large displays made to be seen from far away, generally over 50 feet. Most stand along highways and busy local roads.

The billboard family includes bulletins, posters, junior posters, wall murals and digital billboards. Spectaculars are custom builds for top spots.

A billboard company owns the structure and sells time on each face. Advertisers rent a face for a set flight, often four weeks or more.

The biggest operators are large. At the end of 2025, Lamar ran about 159,300 billboard displays in 45 states and Canada.

In Gabie
